Wrights cable strippers now available from JMC

Want a Wrights cable stripper? We are now able to manufacture Wrights cable strippers in our Nottingham factory following an agreement with Wrights Recycling Machinery this month.  Wrights range of Blue and Yellow ‘Super Strippers’ are well known and respected in the recycling industry.  They can be found in yards both nationally and internationally. Perfectly complementing our Eurostrip range of cable strippers, Wrights super strippers are versatile all-rounders capable of stripping a wide range of cable types.  The machines are reliable and typically easy to use. We believe the addition of Wrights cable stripping equipment allows us to bring you the most extensive range of cable strippers in the UK, and maybe even further afield.  So if you are looking for a cable stripper, please contact us first for further information.

JMC Recycling Systems Ltd – proud of our 150-year history

Next year will mark JMC’s 20th in business. But the McIntyre name, with which we still brand our machines, first appeared in scrap metal in 1872 when Irishman John McIntyre opened J.McIntyre Scrap in the shadow of Nottingham Castle.  John McIntyre was known as ‘Honest John’. His honesty made him popular as a scrap dealer all those years ago and honesty remains one of our core values today.  Some of the best metal at that time was wrought iron from horseshoes which was manually processed with large hammers – we like to think that we have come up with a few better ways over the last 150 years! When John McIntyre died at the end of the First World War, the business was sold, and the job of manager offered to Edward 'Ted' Pownall.  He later bought the company and used to boast that he earned back its purchase cost within his first few weeks of operation.  The business of J.McIntyre continued to flourish,  with Ted Pownall's two sons coming into the operation in the 1950's.  Keen innovators, they kept abreast of equipment trends and installed one of the first fragmentisers in the UK at the company’s then new site in Dunkirk. The need for quality machinery to process the increasing amount of metal coming into the business, and the passion of Ted’s son Michael for better and faster scrap processing, prompted McIntyre’s to set up a company specifically dedicated to producing equipment for the recycling industry.  J.McIntyre Machinery Ltd was born, and over the years designed, developed and manufactured a complete range of equipment from shears and balers, to cable recyclers, grabs, drum crushers, can sorters, furnaces, casting machines, and aluminium dross processing equipment.  [...]

A-Ward win court battle over sale of Container Tilters in the UK

After an extremely long legal battle,  A-Ward have won their case regarding patent infringement by Fabcon on their range of container tilters.  This means that Fabcon are not allowed to sell their tilter in the UK by law.  A-Ward tilters are a fully patented product and we believe them to be the best in the business.  Their revolutionary tilting loaders for example, allow you to fill up every last inch of your shipping containers - and do it fast so you'll save time and money.   Further details regarding the case are given in the link below.  Should you need any additional details on  container loaders and unloaders or have concerns regarding the recent court decision then please do not hesitate to contact us.   To whom it may concern, IMPORTANT NOTICE: The High Court of England and Wales has ruled that the Fabcon container tilter infringes A Ward’s European Patent (UK) 2 021 268 and that sale of the tilter in England and Wales is prohibited by law. Fabcon Engineering has been restrained, whether acting by itself, its servants or agents, from disposing of, or offering to dispose of such container tilting devices in England and Wales. The order of the Honourable Judge Melissa Clarke is enclosed, which includes the following warning notice: ANY OTHER PERSON WHO KNOWS OF THIS ORDER AND DOES ANYTHING WHICH HELPS OR PERMITS THE DEFENDANT TO BREACH THE TERMS OF THIS ORDER MAY ALSO BE HELD TO BE IN CONTEMPT OF COURT AND MAY BE IMPRISONED, FINED OR HAVE THEIR ASSETS SEIZED. Safe contractor accreditation awarded to McInytre

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded safe contractor accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor.    Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK ranging from SMEs to FTSE 100 companies. With scrap metal roots extending back to 1872, McIntyre has evolved to become the gold standard in recycling systems and services, employing over 30 people, and having installed 27,000 machines worldwide. Today, it not only operates its own recycling centre, it both manufactures and resells the best recycling systems available, to help its clients to maximise profits from metal, cars, waste and aluminium. McIntyre’s most recent clients have included major players as far afield as MDJ Light Bros and Singleton’s in England, Molloy Metals in Ireland, Aleris International in the USA, and Groupe Sotrem-Maltech in Canada. For all its clients, bespoke manufacturing, installation and maintenance are value-added services provided by McIntyre. Phillip Pownall, Managing Director of McIntyre, said, ‘We take safety training very seriously, and we’ve long believed we lead the way in best practice both at our base and at client sites, with a strong track record to substantiate this claim. However, we felt that gaining the independent SafeContractor accreditation would not only be a useful check point for us, but would provide valuable confirmation and reassurance for our clients. Naturally, we hope that Safe Contractor accreditation will enhance our ability to win new contracts, and will be viewed positively by our insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.’ Gemma Archibald, Director of Alcumus SafeContractor said: ‘Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing [...]

McIntyre Grabs More Profit for MDJ Light Bros

Rotobec Grabs -  the perfect choice for MDJ Light Bros Despite substantial expansion, MDJ Light Brothers’ profits were being undercut by the cost of maintaining its grabs. It turned to McIntyre for a more robust and reliable solution - the solution was Rotobec Meet MDJ Light Brothers With 40 years’ experience in the recycling industry, Sussex-based MDJ Light Brothers has not only gained major scrap metal contracts across the South East but a reputation as a pioneer. It has developed ground-breaking treatments for resources such as Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), scrap cable and low-grade steel from both treated household waste and Energy from Waste plants.  Grappling the problem Grabs are business-critical for the company, helping it to handle around 20,000 tonnes of material per month efficiently through its sites. However, the company’s existing systems were not keeping up with the heavy workload. Repairs were required too frequently, and the resulting downtime, maintenance charges and replacement parts were costing the company dearly.  Jonathan Light, Company Director of MDJ Light Brothers, said, ‘Pins were breaking regularly, we were repairing or replacing cracked rams at least once a week, and the thin teeth required quite a bit of downtime to flame-cut and weld. What’s more, because the cylinders and rods were not well protected, we had had to commission our own at additional cost. Even with an intensive maintenance regime, each grab required a complete overhaul or replacement after two or three years. ‘Across a fleet of 16 material handlers, this was mounting up to an unacceptable degree of downtime, with a hefty maintenance bill. This undermined our ability to invest for growth, for example in operational innovations or in customer service initiatives. ‘Also, any break in service [...]
